Considered one of the most important Irish painters of his generation, Tyrrell lives and works in Allihies on the remote Beara Peninsula in County Cork. The intensity of his exploration into paint’s rational and non-rational qualities has produced work anything but remote from the essential artistic questions of our time. He is a member of Aosdána, an affiliation of creative artists, established by the Arts Council of Ireland to honour those artists whose work has made an outstanding contribution to the arts in Ireland.
