Arguably one of Ireland’s most respected painters, Donald Teskey presents an exhibition of new paintings at the Catherine Hammond Gallery in Glengarriff, Co. Cork. This large body of work focuses on landscapes of West Cork and, more broadly, Munster. It particularly features new work from the Coomerkane Valley near Glengarriff.
Teskey’s work manifests a sculptural physicality, yet at the same time, a sensitivity to the ephemeral effects of light, wind and season. His energetic, impasto paintings, in acrylic on paper or oil on canvas, achieve a thoughtful universality that connects with a larger memory of the changing landscape around us.
Born in Co. Limerick in 1956, Teskey graduated from Limerick College of Art and Design. In 2003 he was elected a member of the Royal Hibernian Academy. His work has been exhibited in museums throughout Ireland, in the UK, the USA, South Africa, Canada, Germany and Finland. He lives and works in Dublin.
