Michael Canning: Painting, Sculpture, Drawing

The work of this Limerick-based artist examines beauty, temporality, stillness, the ordinary, and the extraordinary. Canning uses painting techniques influenced by 17th century Dutch landscape artists, but his approach is contemporary and conceptual.  This exhibition also features sculpture and drawings reflecting his overriding interest in the organic world.

Still Life painting is hardly quiet, traditional, or predictable in this group show of vibrant, energetic work by four established artists: Regine Bartsch, Katherine Boucher Beug, Jane O’Malley, and Suzy O’Mullane.

Hughie O’Donoghue: Venice Project

This is the second time that O’Donoghue has worked in Venice at the Scuola Internationale di Grafica di Venezia, and the second time he has shown the results at the Catherine Hammond Gallery.

In over twenty works, O’Donoghue explores the locus of memory evoked in stone sculptures he found throughout Venice.  These colourful monotypes are like oil sketches on paper, unique works done with the help of a press.
