Michael Canning

Michael Canning’s work examines beauty in nature, temporality, stillness, the ordinary and the extraordinary.  His erie and surreally beautiful modern paintings of plants whose precision paradoxically leaves everything uncertain.  Best known for his studies or “portraits” of native plants, he uses painting techniques influenced by 17th century Dutch landscape artists.  This exhibition also features two large drawings and some small sculpture, reflecting his overriding interest in the organic world.
