The Enhanced Eye: Painters using photography

June 19 to July 16, 2015

Featuring work by Catherine Barron, Oonagh Hurley, Frances Ryan, Wendy Seller and Cara Thorpe.

Since it’s invention, photography has influenced painting. This group show features work by five artists who are inspired by or appropriate photography regularly in their work. Catherine Barron and Oonagh Hurley interpret old family photographs to excavate universal memories and family narratives. Frances Ryan uses photo transfers in her paintings to create an energy or tension around what is being seen. Wendy Seller paints on photographic prints and then re-photographs them, exploring layers of symbols and fantasy.  Cara Thorpe uses her own photographs as a starting point for paintings of imagined places.
