Linda Shevlin: Re: Place

An exhibition of new work opens June 17th and runs through July 6th. The opening reception is on Saturday, June 18th from 3 to 5 pm.

Linda Shevlin makes lyrical, atmospheric paintings about place and time. Says Shevlin, “I use the building up of layers of paint as a metaphor for memory. I am primarily interested in how the imagination recreates the past and the conflict between remembering and reality. In this work, I explore the void between actual place and memory.”

A 1996 graduate of Dublin Institute of Technology, Shevlin has had recent solo shows at the Hallward Gallery, Dublin; Triskel Arts Centre, Cork: Model Arts & Niland Gallery, Sligo; and Signal Arts Centre, Wicklow.

Latest Review

From the Winter 2004 Irish Arts Review:

“The Catherine Hammond Gallery in Glengarriff, which opened this year, is a welcome new addition to the Cork county scene. Hammond has a curatorial background that includes the Smithsonian and the Boston Institute of Contemporary Art, and is committed to the highest standards of presentation in her new gallery space in the village centre. “

Irish Times Review

In his August 6, 2004 review, Mark Ewart wrote “Although the newly established Catherine Hammond Gallery, in Glengarriff, may be somewhat isolated from large towns and cities, the exhibition space is as sophisticated as any other in the country.”
