Patricia Burns: Coastal
An exhibition of new paintings by this up-and-coming Cork artist, opened on Friday, May 20th, with artist Tracy Staunton speaking.
Some work tells a story; these new paintings present the bones of a haunting narative that views must fill in for themselves. According to the artist, “the work has its source in the off season fragility and emptiness that envelopes those areas of East Cork dotted with mobile homes, holiday houses, car parks and beaches.”
Burns took a degree in painting from Dublin Institute of Technology in 1986 but only began painting full-time eight years ago. Since then, she has shown at the Courthouse Arts Centre in Co. Wicklow, at Droicheda Arts Center, and at Eigse in Carlow. She has enjoyed several residencies at Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Co. Mayo. She lives in East Cork.
The exhibit runs through June 15th, 2005.
