Brian Hegarty: From Bone to Satellite

September 9 to October 5, 2005

This exhibition of new work by Drogheda-based artist, Brian Hegarty, features a series of rich collage pieces that explore man’s relationship to material culture, nature, the past, and everyday experience. Says the artist: “The images for this body of work are picked from everyday media such as magazines, flyers, catalogues, etc, and then worked through with paint, colour and photocopying, and by layering and ripping back. When choosing an image to work from, I have no predetermined conclusion in mind of what the finished piece will be.”

Anne Neely: Going West

July 29 through August 17

The first Irish solo exhibition of work by Boston-based painter, Anne Neely, highlights small paintings made as result of the artist’s visits to Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Co. Mayo. A restless, searching energy radiates from Neely’s work that explores the relationship between man and nature, gravity and weightlessess, mark making, and the quest for spirit through matter.

Neely’s work has been the subject of over fifteen gallery and museum exhibitions in Boston, New York, San Francesco and New England. Her work is in major US collections and museums, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC.

Carol Hodder: Landmarks

This successful exhibition of new work by Cork painter, Carol Hodder, ran from July 8th through July 27th. It featured strong, abstract expressions of interior and exterior landscapes. Work by Hodder can be seen on an ongoing basis at the gallery.

The title Landmarks, says Hodder, “relates to the indelible marks that are etched over time on the memory. The work is an ongoing exploraiton of the role that colour, form, and light have on the remembered experience. Elements of relationship with landscape, and of working within its space and boundaries from both an interior and exterior perspective, inform this process, as do the marks on the surface and what is lying beneath them.”

Hodder has exhibited throughout Ireland, including COE Claremorris, Iontas, Eigse, the Oireachtais, RUA and RHA, and most recently C2 and the Crawford Municipal Gallery in Cork. She shows with Hillsboro Fine Art in Dublin and is a fellow of the Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Ballycastle, Co. Mayo.
